Let's do this. There were multiple Nasby MILLS living contemporaneously, which makes it very challenging to figure out who's who.

I think there were at least four Nasby MILLS living in Pitt and Craven Counties in the second half of the 1700s. Here is the information I have and there may very well be errors here, so please reply below if you see any.

#1 - Nasby MILLS abt 1730-1790 (my dates could be wrong. I'll correct them if needed.)

m. Keziah WALLACE

Children:

  • Mary MILLS (1760–1822) m. Benjamin COX
  • Jemima MILLS (1765–?) m. Gideon PETTIT
  • Nasby MILLS (1772–1860) m. Nancy Ann ELKS
  • Henry Hunter MILLS (1775–1857) m. Celia Ann ADAMS
  • William MILLS (1778–1855) m. first wife unknown; m2. Winifred SMITH
  • Sarah MILLS (1788–1845) m. Nasby Hall HADDOCK

#2 - Nasby MILLS (abt 1763–?)

I believe this one was the son of Anthony MILLS and Virginia CLARK or CHAPMAN.

m. Sarah WILSON (daughter of Daniel WILSON + Elizabeth HOLLOWAY)

Based only on looking at numbers of children living in the household in the 1790 and 1800 census, I believe they had at least:

  • Four daughters?
  • Three sons?

#3 - Nasby MILLS (1772-1860) - Son of #1 Nasby Mills above.

m. Nancy Ann ELKS

The only three children I have listed for them are:

  • Kenney Mills (1800–?)
  • Luke Mills (1808–1880) m. Sidney "Siddie" BROOKS
  • Adam R Mills (1809–?)

#4 - Nasby MILLS (abt 1776–?) moved to Knox County, Kentucky

m. Esther HADDOCK

I only know of one child:

  • Isaac MILLS (1806–1877) m. Lavina HAMMONDS

I've only listed Nasby MILLS who were living in the 1700s here. I haven't added any of the later ones (born after 1800) because they will likely show up in the 1850 census and we'll have much more information on them.

Do you know of any from the 1700s that I've missed?

I have somewhat of a disagreement with some of this Sara.  The Nasby who was the son of Anthony, is the Nasby that moved to Knox County Ky and received a land grant there in 1835.  If you track that family and subsequent generations, you can see their long standing tradition that Anthony was that Nasby's father.  Most of his and Esther Haddock's kids were born in KY and I feel like he was already there by 1830.  Probably received land grants for his 1812 Militia Service in Pitt County.

The Nasby you list as Nasby Mills b1730 and Kiziah Wallace's son is actually born in 1763, not 1772, as he testified to in 1832 in Pitt County in his deposition to obtain his pension for service of two 3 month tours during the American Revolution.  This Nasby is the father of Luke B Mills b 1808 and Calvin and Adam.  Luke B. Mills is my 3rd great grandfather.

I support my theory by saying that if you look at the Knox Kentucky family, you will see that they pass their family names down through the generations.. You will see several Anthonys, and Lucretias, in honor of that Nasby's father, Anthony Mills and his mother Lucretia Hammond.

Those names are not found in the descending family of the Nasby, born 1763, who lived in Pitt County from the time of his birth until his death, which we know to be after 1832 and before 1861.  I suspect that the Nasby and Ann Mills found in the 1860 census living next to Adam Mills, their son, are in fact this Nasby and Nancy Ann Mills. I realize that if you look at the ages recorded by the census taker, it turns out to be 1772, but I think that is in fact an error and possibly the statistics were reported to the census taker by some other family member and an error was made, because he clearly states in his deposition the year of his birth and that he has proof of his birth.

By the time of his deposition, in 1831-32, the other Nasby, who I believe  as do the members of the Kentucky line, was Anthony's son was already firmly entrenched in Knox County Ky.

Thank you for joining the forum, @pfbennett! I know you are a solid MILLS researcher so I'm happy to correct my notes wherever I have errors.

Ok, so if Anthony MILLS was the son of the Nasby who moved to Kentucky, then who was the father of the Nasby MILLS who married Sarah WILSON, daughter of Daniel WILSON and Elizabeth HOLLOWAY?

Also, it's concerned me that the Nasby MILLS who you are saying was born in 1763 (who served in the Revolution) is the same one who was the father of Luke, Adam, and Kenney MILLS since that Nasby is in an age range that would have had him born in the 1770s on the 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860 census. Also, he's not listed on the list of Pensioners in the 1840 United States Census for Pitt County.

I have found that sometimes the information in pension applications is erroneous, but I've mostly seen that when it's someone else answering the questions other than the one who served. Elizabeth Edwards WALL comes to mind. The age she gives in her pension application as a widow does not jibe with her age on any census, nor does it jibe with her son's bible record.

Anyway, here are the only Pitt County pensioners in 1840. I may have missed it in reading the document, but does your Nasby name his son's in his pension application? (I've read so many of those things now I just can't remember.)
