I'm looking for information on the origins of Edward Spencer, died 1797 in Hyde County. He was granted a lot of land around Lake Mattamuskeet in Hyde County before 1776. Some grants were to multiple people including surnames  Blackledge, Jones, and Neale.

It's possible this Spencer line came up from Charleston after being  in Caribbean colonies. So I'd like to learn about this or other families that made such a journey.

I descend from Simon Whitehurst, whose sons were Simon, Batson, Daniel, and John. I believe Simon and his sons were born in Princess Anne, Virginia and migrated to Pitt, Beaufort, and Martin counties. Batson remained in Pitt County. John, my grandfather, Lived in Pitt and Martin counties before moving to Greene County in Georgia. Hancock County, Georgia was split from Greene. Son John lived in Hancock after the split.

Could you add Hawthorne of Bladen County, please?

John S. Hawthorne

Christened 29 Oct 1740, Surry County, Virginia

Died 1836, Twiggs County, Georgia

Lived in Bladen County from abt. 1760 to abt. 1810 (approx. 50 years)

Note: Robeson County was formed out of Bladen County in 1787. His tax and land records after the new formation of Robeson County show he lived there.

My John Ellis came to Georgia from the Carolinas (some children's census records say North, some South, but oldest son was born in NC, so I think he was in transit to Georgia). The censuses on which he appears indicate he was probably born around 1773. He came to the Tattnall/Emanuel/Montgomery County, GA area, until he finally settled in Telfair County, where he died. He had two children with a first, unnamed wife: William (1797-1867), born in NC, and Minta (1801-aft 1880), born in SC. There's a five or six-year gap, then he married Jerusa (many say Roundtree), who was born in NC. Together they had five more children: Hiram, John Jr., Henry, Jerusha, and Mary Ann Jincy. I have documents pertaining to Georgia, but none indicate where in North Carolina he was from. Anyone have any ideas how to find where he came from?
