I was so happy to find this on the NCDCR site. First time I’ve ever seen my ancestor Eli Cox’s first name recorded as Elijah Cox (last page). Now, it’s entirely possible that his name was just Eli J. Cox and the enumerator assumed it was Elijah, but it’s also possible this was really how his name was given and recorded.
