Arthur Butler Family Bible Record

by | Apr 15, 2014 | 0 comments

The bible record for the Arthur Butler family was written in a Bible like this.

This Bible record may have been written by Sarah “Sally” Johnson Butler, as Arthur Butler was already deceased by the time this particular Bible was printed in 1829.

What a treasure this is, as first of all, it sets Arthur and Sally’s marriage much earlier than previously thought. Second, it lists children who didn’t survive to be listed in Arthur’s will dated 1823.

The Holy Bible; Stereotyped for the American Bible Society, by D & G. Bruce; New York 1829. Because of the age of the Bible, this record is probably a copy of the family bible record made by or for one of the children. This bible was in the possession of Lewis Evans, of Greenville, NC. A transcript submitted to the NC Archives Bible collection by the late Rev. Ivey Wall, of Wake Forest, NC. A note included by Mr. Wall states that Sally Butler was the daughter of Jacob Johnson and his wife Sallie Pearce. Contributed by Roger Kammerer.
