I found this list crawling through a folder of Pitt County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions records on FamilySearch. There were only a couple of folders and I went through every single image in one of them 344 scans in total.
This particular tax list is one I don’t recall seeing elsewhere. The names and community are nearly identical to what appeared in Roger Kammerer’s list in PCGQ identified as Swift Creek community, but his list was recorded as being torn in little strips. This tax list, on the other hand, is in the more typical census-style format.
The columns at the top of each page include:
- Names
- Quantity of Land
- White Polls
- Black Polls
- Town Lotts
- Value of Do
- Covering Horsese
- Price per ???
The tax lists has the names as “Last Name, First Name” but I am putting them in “First Name Last Name” order since that’s how most people search for their ancestors. Also, I’m not going to indicate the values in each column, but I will give you the actual pages and the page numbers where each person is found so you can check the values for yourself.
