North Carolina Digital Collections has PDFs available of Cemetery Survey Records for counties across North Carolina. These surveys were compiled by Works Progress Administration, which was established in 1935 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. According to this brief history by the individual who posted the records to the State Archives site, “[I]t’s purpose was to operate useful work projects designed to provide maximum employment in all localities and to coordinate necessary and useful data-compiling and research activities.” (Visit the N.C. Archives blog here.)
