The following is a transcription of the Last Will & Testament of Thomas Austin of Craven County. Thomas Austin’s wife was Mary [Last name unknown] and his daughter was Martha. He names his grandchildren as Thomas Austin and Saletha Easlick.

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Austin of the County of Craven and State aforesd Being weak in Body but of Perfect sence and memory doe make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in Manner and form as followeth Viz ~
[illegible] After all my Just Debts and funeral Charges are satisfied the residue And Remainder I Lend to my beloved wife Mary Austin During her Natural Life that is to say one Negro woan Named Sarah and four Children Abram Jacob billy and Sampson And all my househould goods and All my stock of Cattle hogs and Sheep [illegible]
Item after my wife Mary Austin Decease I give and bequeath to my Daughter Susannah Britain two Negroe Boys by Name Abram & billy And all my houshold Goods and all my stock of Cattle hogs and Sheep and one Mare [illegible]
Item After my wifes Mary Austin Decease I give And bequeath to my Daughter Martha Slade two Negros one wench and child by name Jane and Sampson
Item After my wife Decease I Give and bequeath to my Grandson Austin Prescutt [Prescott] one Negro Boy by Name Jacob to be put into the care of William Bohannan till he returns from the Northward and if not return by Loose his Life there the Sd Bohannon is to keep the sd Negro to himself and his heirs forever
Item I give and bequeath to my Grandson Thomas Austin Twenty Shillings Current money of this State
Item I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter Twenty Shillings Current Money of this State
Item I Do hereby Constitute and Appoint my true and trusty friends my son in Law Thomas Britain and John Gunter my whole and sole Executors of this my Last Will And Testament

Utterly Disannulling And Revoking all other Wills by me Made in Testimony Whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and fixt my seal this Day of 1778
