NCDCR now has General Assembly Session Records online. I have been going back through the records for 1810, the year that Laban Morris had his name legally changed from Henby, along with his sons John and William.
Now, I’m more convinced than ever that the name was HENBY not HENLEY.
I’m including the images below.
Also, now that I’m looking at it more closely, the General Assembly legally spelled his name LABON and not LABAN. The name LABAN is in the Bible (Genesis 29 through Genesis 31), but apparently that’s not the official spelling according to government records. Anyway, I’ve seen the name spelled Laban, Labon, Laben, and even Luben!
